Is this role really exempt from overtime?
A salaried job title doesn't make someone exempt. The role has to pass a salary test and a duties test. Check one role here, then add it to your roster to recheck at every raise.
Guidance, not legal advice. The federal minimum salary for most exemptions is $684 a week ($35,568 a year), restored by the Department of Labor in 2026. Several states set a higher bar, including California, New York, Washington, Colorado, Maine, and Alaska. Florida follows the federal rule. Everything runs in your browser. What this does not decide
- State thresholds that are higher than the federal one. If you're outside Florida, check your state labor department.
- Whether deductions from salary break the salary basis. Docking pay for partial-day absences can cost the exemption.
- Teachers, licensed doctors, and lawyers have no salary test. This checker doesn't cover them.
