Which employment laws apply at your size?

Most rules switch on at a headcount: 15, 20, 25, 50, 100. Enter yours and see what applies today and what changes at your next hire.

Guidance, not legal advice. Headcounts are counted differently by each law (weeks worked, locations, full-time equivalents). Treat this as a map, then confirm the counting rule for any threshold you're close to. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded, and your answers are saved only on this device so you can come back to them.

How counting works

  • Title VII, ADA, ADEA, GINA, PWFA count employees on payroll for each working day in 20 or more calendar weeks this year or last year.
  • FMLA needs 50 employees for 20 or more weeks, and an employee is only eligible if 50 work within 75 miles of their site.
  • ACA employer mandate uses full-time employees plus full-time equivalents from part-timers, averaged over the prior year.
  • Florida E-Verify applies to private employers with 25 or more employees.
