Can I ask that in an interview?

Type the question you're thinking of asking. See whether it touches a protected area, and how to ask about the job requirement instead.

Guidance, not legal advice. Federal law protects race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity), national origin, age 40+, disability, and genetic information. Many states and cities add more, including salary history bans. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded, and your answers are saved only on this device so you can come back to them.

The rule of thumb

Ask about the job, not the person. If the role needs weekend shifts, ask if they can work weekends. Don't ask why they might not. Ask every candidate for the role the same core questions, and write down the answers.
